Rocker Switch Guide: KCD1, KCD3, KCD4 Series Explained

dp_admin 3 min read

A rocker switch is a type of electrical switch that rocks back and forth to open or close a circuit. Unlike toggle switches that use a flipping action, rocker switches rock on a central hinge, providing a smooth actuating motion favored in modern equipment design. WEUP rocker switches deliver reliable performance for applications ranging from consumer electronics to industrial equipment.

WEUP rocker switches are available in multiple series including KCD1, KCD3, and KCD4, with current ratings from 6A to 30A and voltage ratings up to 250V AC. All WEUP rocker switches carry CE, UL, and CQC certifications for global market access.

How Rocker Switches Work

A rocker switch uses a pivoting actuator that rocks back and forth on a central axis. In the off position, the actuator sits level. When pressed on one side, the actuator rocks to one side, closing the normally open contacts and completing the circuit. Pressing the opposite side rocks the actuator in the opposite direction, opening the first set of contacts and closing the second set if equipped with changeover contacts.

The spring-loaded mechanism inside the switch provides positive tactile feedback and ensures reliable contact force throughout the switch lifecycle. The rocking motion distributes contact pressure evenly, reducing wear and extending switch life.

WEUP Rocker Switch Product Series

KCD1 Series (6A Rocker Switches)

The KCD1 series provides 6A switching capacity at 250V AC in a compact form factor. These switches are ideal for low-power applications in consumer electronics, automotive accessories, and industrial control panels. Available configurations include SPST, SPDT, DPST, and 3PDT.

KCD3 Series (16A Rocker Switches)

The KCD3 series delivers 16A switching capacity for medium-power applications. The increased current rating makes these switches suitable for industrial equipment, welding machines, and high-power appliances. Options include illuminated variants with built-in LED indicators.

WEUP KCD4 Series Rocker Switch 30A

KCD4 Series (30A Rocker Switches)

The KCD4 series provides 30A switching capacity for high-power applications including welding equipment, industrial motors, and heavy machinery.

Rocker Switch Applications

Consumer Electronics

Rocker switches appear throughout consumer electronics as power on/off controls. Their sleek appearance and smooth actuation make them popular for audio equipment, household appliances, and computer peripherals.

Industrial Equipment

Manufacturing equipment, welding machines, and industrial control systems rely on rocker switches for reliable circuit control. According to NEMA standards, switches for industrial applications must meet specific requirements for dielectric strength and operating life.

Marine Applications

Marine rocker switches feature IP65 or higher waterproof ratings and corrosion-resistant materials. Marine rocker switches are certified to UL and ABYC standards.

WEUP Rocker Switch Certifications

All WEUP rocker switches carry CE, UL, and CQC certifications for global market access.
