What is a Double Pole Switch？
A double pole switch is an electrical switch that controls two separate circuits simultaneously. It effectively acts as two single-pole switches integrated into one unit, allowing for the on/off control of two independent circuits with a single action.
DPST VS DPDT
DPST and DPDT switches differ in their “throw” configuration. A DPST (Double Pole Single Throw) switch has two poles (or circuits) that can be switched on or off simultaneously, but each pole only has one connection (single throw).
A DPDT (Double Pole Double Throw) switch also has two poles, but each pole can be switched between two different connections (double throw)
Single Pole vs Double Pole Switch
A single pole switch controls one circuit from one location, commonly used for lights. It has two terminals: one input, one output. A double pole switch controls two separate circuits simultaneously, often used for appliances needing both live and neutral disconnection.
It has four terminals: two inputs and two outputs. Double pole switches provide more safety by isolating both wires, while single pole switches only break the live connection.
